As a Sustaining Electrical Engineer, you will be the electrical technical owner for multiple Amazon device programs from mass production through end of life. You will lead the investigation and resolution of major hardware quality issues reported by customers, drive related hardware design changes, qualify alternate hardware components, spearhead cost-reduction engineering initiatives, and lead hardware failure analyses that significantly impact manufacturing yield. Each decision weighs electrical risk against cost, schedule and customer impact. This is a senior individual contributor role. You will set the technical bar across a broad portfolio, make data-driven calls when requirements are ambiguous, and influence US-based design teams and manufacturing partners without direct authority.
This role requires approximately 30% travel to ODM/CM partner sites across Greater China.
Key job responsibilities
• Own electrical sustaining engineering for multiple programs across the Echo, Fire TV, eReader and Tablet portfolios
• Lead electrical evaluation and qualification of alternate / second-source components (memory, PMIC, DC/DC, passives, connectors), defining validation plans and sign-off criteria
• Assess supplier PCN / EOL notifications (e.g., fab transfer, die revision, process change) for electrical risk, and drive qualification or last-time-buy decisions
• Identify and drive cost-reduction engineering changes, balancing BOM savings against electrical risk and validation effort
• Drive root cause and corrective action on mass-production yield issues and field returns through failure analysis and bench debug
• Provide engineering validation for factory and line transfers, ensuring electrical conformance at the new site
• Develop and execute electrical validation test plans to ensure functional and parametric conformance, and report status at milestone gates
• Raise the technical bar across the team by setting validation standards, reviewing peers' analyses, and mentoring junior electrical engineers
• Use AI tools and write scripts to automate validation, data analysis and reporting where feasible
