This is a new post of Clinical Fellow that supports our very busy electrophysiology service in both adult and paediatric electrophysiology. The post is whole time and at ST6+ level on the Specialist Registrar scale. The job will be split between the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children and the Bristol Heart Institute. The 2 hospitals are on the same grounds with physical links between them. The Bristol Royal Hospital for Children is the Regional Centre for Paediatric Cardiology & Congenital Cardiac Surgery for the Southwest and South Wales. The Bristol Heart Institute similarly serves patients from across the region, including adults with congenital heart disease, requiring complex electrophysiology procedures and devices.

It is envisaged that the post-holder will contribute to the electrophysiology service, including catheter ablation and devices, as well as inherited cardiac conditions. The post holder is expected to undertake a research/audit project during the fellowship and may have an opportunity to participate in the SpR out of hours On Call Cardiology (or Peadiatric Cardiology) service. The post holder will be expected to work in close collaboration with the Consultant Electrophysiologists as well as having close liaison with other disciplines, particularly the cardiac physiologists and arrhythmia nurses.

Shortlisting details and interview arrangements will be communicated via email therefore please ensure you check your email account regularly.

The successful applicant will be appointed as a senior fellow in cardiac electrophysiology and devices. The work programme will include up to 6 weekly sessions in the adult and paediatric EP/devices cath lab in rotation with all the EP consultants, at least one weekly paediatric EP clinic, and one admin session. The post holder will also be required to provide inpatient EP consultations for paediatric and adult patients. In addition to the clinical activities, there will be a whole day equivalent dedicated to audit and research. It is expected that the appointed fellow will undertake clinical audit and will supervise more junior doctors undertaking EP audits. Furthermore, the fellow will be required to set up and run a research project during his post. Finally, there is an educational EP meeting that runs every Friday morning and it will be the responsibility of the fellow to organize that meeting activity with the EP lead. The fellow will also be expected to contribute to the monthly arrhythmia teaching sessions to the paediatric cardiology department.
